Shawarma is a dish in Middle Eastern cuisine consisting of meat cut into thin slices, stacked in a cone-like shape, and roasted on a slowly-turning vertical rotisserie or spit. There are various food joints that serve shawarma in Chennai.
Althaf Food Court is currently the best shawarma food joint in and around Saidapet. This place is famous for their fresh shawarmas, grills and fried rice. Many youngsters and office workers complete their day with the Althaf’s tasty and stomach filling food at affordable prices. The place is quite small and doesn’t offer dine-in option. Though the place is small, the food they serve is not secondary in any way. They serve better food than many other bigger restaurants.
Althaf’s shawarma is a perfect mix in terms of meat, mayo and lettuce only for the crunch; this is what makes one juicy and scrumptious shawarma. Shawarma will be ready every evening at 6 PM and it ends up by 9.30 or 10 PM. They sell Almost 270 to 300 shawarmas per day.
They serve excellent food at minimal prices- from 80 to 149 INR and they prepare the food very quickly too. Althaf food court has been running for past 3 years and the Althaf shawarma lovers are drastically increasing. Everyday more and more people come to enjoy Althaf’s mouth-watering food. This shop has their fan base for shawarma, Grills, fried rice etc. People are attracted to this place for their quality, quantity and reasonable prices. This place is definitely a Worthy Contender for the best shawarma joint in Chennai. This is one of my favourite joints in the city and will continue to be the same!
Mamagoto is one of the well-known Asian restaurants. This is about the outlet in express avenue mall. It was decorated with colourful and funky posters. The ambience and aroma was welcoming and gave cheerful vibes. This was my first visit to mamagoto. I went with my friends, it’s fun Asian eating where there is fusion food. They serve Chinese, Thai, fresh juices and desert. It attracts people who love Asian food and are up for some fusion. It was pretty much filled on a Saturday afternoon, not many tables were vacant.
The minute we were seated on our table, the menu was provided which was bigger in size than any of the menus I had ever seen. We ordered old school Gyoza veg dumplings and pan fried black bean chicken noodles. It took way too long than expected until we were served food, maybe it was because of the crowd. But the food was delivered after a long time, we became quite restless. On the brighter side it gave us time to chat and catch up. The music which they played was quite entertaining and lightened the mood. The food was served. It looked pleasing and delicious.
“Looks can be deceiving”, it applies for food too. The dumplings looked beautiful but tasted very bad. It was burnt and you could taste the burnt flavor while eating. It was definitely not worth the price.
On the contrary, the noodles was better than the dumplings.Infact, it was delicious and had rich flavours. The noodles was very tasty after the dumplings we had. It was full of flavors and the chicken was beautifully cooked. The mix of black bean noodles and the chicken was mouthwatering.
The quantity was suffice to fill 2 stomachs. It was quite over-priced because the food that they served was not up to the mark and didn’t deserve to be so expensive. Overall, there is scope for improvement and it would be better if the waiters were more attentive and if the food could be served a little sooner.

Butterscotch Barfi is also known as Kadalai Maavu Burfi. It is one of the yummy and delicious barfi I have ever come across, which is made with the combination of gram flour, mawa (milk solids), ghee, butterscotch chips and milkmaid.
The gram flour is roasted and cooked together with mawa and butterscotch, which gives a crispy as well as soft texture. When the burfi enters in our mouth, the flavour of butter can be very well experienced at the beginning and gradually melts and disappears giving a flavour of milky with sweetness . One who loves sweet can never miss this burfi. The price is also very reasonable. It is found that 250 Gms of butter Scotch burfi costs 147 rupees, which is a pocket friendly amount I guess. Other varieties of burfies available In this restaurant are dates besan burfi, mysore barfi, special burfi, chocolate burfi.
It’s has cripsy cheesy taste made with garlic bread and cheese slices . And with there small of shot of espresso for all the coffee lovers out there . Restaurant’s name cafe coffee day Anna nagar.

Roll over! This is hands down, one of the best places in Chennai to treat your sweet tooth.. Located in various hot spots in Chennai, Roll over is an Ice cream parlour specialising in rolled ice cream ( as it’s name suggests ) and many more like sundaes, milkshakes and fries!
The most fascinating aspect is the affordability for the amazing quality of food it offers… Roll over is an apt destination for family as well as college students to hang out and spend time…My favourite is the Apple pie sundae ( Ashok Nagar branch) which is to die for! This is a sundae which has in it’s base, an apple pie made of a crispy pie crust on which a big scoop of handcrafted vanilla ice cream, with black spots of vanilla seeds running through is scooped, and served with a splash of apple sauce and butterscotch chips drizzling on top! The cold ice cream and warmed apple pie just melts in your mouth and takes you to a totally different level all together! The ambience and service is good. The price for two is very affordable and ranges between ₹450-₹500
Known for it’s authentic North Indian cuisine, Delhi highway is a classic and my absolute favourite eat out place in the heart of Chennai, Nungambakkam. Providing a royal ambience, it’s unique interiors are breathtaking! This restaurant is famous for it’s VEGETARIAN MAHARAJA THALI✨ This meal is a buffet which is served to the guests on table, consisting of 20 items in total and is a rich and wholesome meal!
There is a wide variety of starters from panner to potato and 8 starters are served in total. The starter included three chaat options of which, the pani poori was a must try!
The main course consisted of Hyderabadi biriyani which is a win win for me!! It mets in your mouth and the flavour is unbelievable! The breads were soft as usual and the panner gravies were absolutely a hit! Finally, the dessert was a fitting finisher for the amazing meal! The Gulab Jamun and kesari phirini are to die for and the classic lassi is the best lassi in Chennai!
Over all the buffet is very rich and is worth the price although it’s on the higher side. The price for two is approximately ₹1200-₹1600. The service is good and is the best place for a happy family lunch or dinner time!
